Meet the coaches of East Hull ABC
If you're thinking of joining a boxing club, or even just attending a keep fit class. We think you should have the opportunity to know a little bit about the people who run the club and what qualifies them to teach boxing.
All of our coaches are vetted and hold Enhanced CRB clearance to work with children - the club also has a number of equalities and child protection policies in place to safeguard all users of the gym and boxing club.
Sean Ross - Head Coach & Founder of East Hull ABC
Sean has been an East Hull lad all of his life and grew up with the deire to ensure that the next generation of East Hull had something else top turn to other than petty crime.
He started his career in boxing at St.Mary's ABC located in the former Eastmount Recreation Centre in 1990 at the age of 10 years old.
He then went on to box at St.Marys boxing club for a further 3 years, until it was closed down.
He continued boxing for St.Pauls boxing club, even though it was quite a distance from his childhood home on Longhill.
This is what inspired Sean to establish a boxing club in East Hull, to ensure that those teenagers who want to pursue a worthwhile sport instead of hanging around the streets, can do so locally.
Eight years ago, Sean visited his old estate and saw the children hanging out on the streets. Having been there himself, he knew exactly what they needed.
This inspired him to set up East Hull ABC and Sean has seen a huge difference in the children he helps, with parents saying to him that he’s turned their children’s lives around.
Boxing is a way of building up young people’s self-confidence, disciplining them and teaching them respect. It gives them an avenue to get praise and be good at something, as well as giving them aims and goals to work towards. The club also does adult weight loss programmes helping individuals who have lost confidence to get back into employment through looking good and feeling healthy.
